The centuries old habitat of birds came into limelight by Dr. Salim Ali’s reports. It was officially constituted in 1983.  The 25.16sq. kM forest lies in the Northern banks of Periyar river: Longitude 760 40’- 760 45’ ; East Lattitude 100 7’ North. The outstanding flora and fauna  consists of 750 species of plants, 57 species of fish, 257 species of birds and hundreds of butterflies including 13 endemic ones to Western Ghats.Dr. Salim Ali Birds Sanctuary nestles 257 species of birds including herons, Egrets, Cormorants, Bitterns, Storks, Ducks, Teals, Kites, Eagles, Falcons, Fowls, Sandpipers, Pigeons, Turtles, Parrots, Cuckoos, Owls, Night jars,Treeswifts and Swifts, King fishers, Bee eaters, Hornbills, Barbets, Woodpeckers, Swallows, Bulbuls, Whistling- thrushes, Flycatchers, Babblers, Warblers, Flower pckers, Sunbirds, Drongos, Starlings etc.

Amidst the forest and aside the waterbody (3 sides covered by forest and the rest by water rich in aquatic diversity) inside a medicinal and spices  plantation along with the pets and educated hosts guarantee you an eco living. Organically cultivated vegetables and tubers are at your option. A 10 min. walk through the forest takes you to the entrance of Dr. Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary and a 20 min. rowing in a  country boat crossing the reservoir  provide the solitary environment on the banks of  lagoon in  the Sanctuary.

Ayurveda treatments is guided by Dr. Ittoop J. Ancheril M.D (Ayur) in the full fledged unit for the same in the campus itself. Rejuvenation , Body Purification, Slimming, Stress Management and Beauty Care through Ayurvedic Panchakarma and Rasayana are the major programme undertaken by us. 7 days and 14 days packages for body rejuvenation and stress management are available other than the daily programme. Kalari treatment very effective for fast healing is being done by the Gurukkal.

Indian Philosophical concept of Yoga synchronize both body and mind. The inmates can learn and practice Yoga and meditation. Guidance will be given by Dr Deepthi B.A.M.S, M.Sc (Yoga). The yoga platform beside the water body under the canopy of evergreen plants is very ideal for the practice.
